Sunset Villas is an eleven-unit family complex that is situated on a ¾ acre lot with several mature oak trees. Each unit has a private entry and patio along with energy efficient heating, cooling, and cooking appliances. This development received the prestigious National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials’ Award of Merit for its design, incorporation of mature oak trees into the project, and focus on energy efficient solutions for which it was awarded an Energy Star rating.
The formerly vacant lot was sold to the Area Housing Authority in 2001. Funding for the project was provided through a combination of grants from the City of Thousand Oaks and Washington Mutual Bank, agency funds, a CALHFA HELP loan from the State and a conventional loan from First California Bank. The project was completed in 2003 for approximately $1.7 million.
Units are restricted to lower income households with income at 50% of median income. In addition, all units are available to Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher participants.
